Moonlight Peaks Howling Marshes Location, Map & Secrets

Quick Answer:

  • Location: The Howling Marshes are directly north of Moonlight Peaks town plaza and east of Moonlit Pines.
  • Town Entrance (Fastest): Walk to Town Hall, follow the path along the building's northern exterior heading east, then turn north across the wooden footbridge.
  • Forest Entrance: Head east from Luna's Seed Stall in Moonlit Pines across the stone stepping trail.
  • Yabbies Location: Freshwater muddy pools in the south-central marsh shallows.
  • Cave North of Yabbies: A hidden rock archway north of the Yabbies pond leads directly into the Upper Gallery of the Cave of Echoes.

How to Find the Howling Marshes (Map Routes)

  1. Start at the central town plaza fountains.
  2. Head north past Town Hall's entrance and turn right (east) along the stone garden wall.
  3. Turn left (north) when you reach the wooden signpost marked "To the Marshes".
  4. Cross the wooden bridge over the mist-covered canal to enter the zone.

Route 2: From Moonlit Pines (Farm Shortcut)

  1. Exit your farm through the eastern trail into Moonlit Pines.
  2. Proceed north past the river crossing towards Luna's Seed Stall.
  3. Take the eastern dirt trail opposite the seed counter to arrive at the western marsh border.

Where to Find Yabbies in Moonlight Peaks

Yabbies are freshwater crustaceans required for several village recipes and Museum aquarium donations:

  • Location: Spawns exclusively in the shallow murky water pools in the central and southern sections of the Howling Marshes.
  • Visual Tell: Look for small brownish bubbles rising near submerged tree roots.
  • Rod Requirement: Can be caught using the basic Rusty Rod or higher.
  • Best Time: Active throughout all hours from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, especially during rainy weather.

What Is the Cave North of Yabbies?

Directly north of the primary Yabbies fishing pond, past the grove of Weeping Willows, you will find an overgrown rock archway:

  • Cave Identity: This is the Northern Marsh Tunnel, a shortcut connecting the Howling Marshes to the Upper Chasm of the Cave of Echoes.
  • Requirements: The path is initially blocked by a large boulder that requires a Copper Pickaxe (or higher) to clear.
  • Reward: Provides quick fast-access between the marsh willow groves and the underground mining veins without walking back through town.

If the map is easier to read than the paths, remember the regional relationship: Moonlit Pines → east → Howling Marshes.

Full Moon Day 15 Checklist

The full moon occurs on Day 15 of each season. The Moonlight Peaks community Wiki says werewolves transform at midnight; Neoseeker ties the Awooooo! achievement to talking with a werewolf on Day 15 during the full moon.

Use this checklist before sleeping through the date:

  1. On Day 15, finish time-sensitive farm work before midnight.
  2. Go to the Howling Marshes before the transformation. Player reports identify it as the gathering area; this location detail is community evidence, not an official schedule table.
  3. Avoid using up every werewolf's daily conversation before midnight if you are targeting Awooooo!.
  4. After midnight, talk to a transformed werewolf. If the achievement does not trigger, try another werewolf before the night ends.
  5. Bring a Premium or Enchanted Rod if you also want Moonflutter: the published fishing table places it in Luna Bay during a full moon with a large shadow.

The Moon Goddess is also documented as descending during the full moon. These are the verified full-moon uses found in current sources. We did not find dependable support for circulating claims such as doubled crop growth, a blanket Mana bonus, “Blood Moon” farm rules, or moon-phase crop multipliers, so this guide does not recommend planning a farm around them.

For the fishing condition, see the Day 15 Moonflutter route. For forms and transformation controls, use the Shapeshifting Guide.

Tension in the Crest Garden Quest

Neoseeker documents Tension in the Crest Garden as unlocking after A Bridge Too Far, followed by a one-day wait. Its route is:

  1. visit the Crest Garden left of Town Hall;
  2. talk to Alina, Aras, and Dragan;
  3. meet the group at The Broken Lamp;
  4. meet Ludo and Saga in the Howling Marshes tomorrow;
  5. return to the Howling Marshes for the meeting;
  6. go to Town Hall.

Entering the marshes while the objective is active triggers the required scene. The quest then unlocks A Croak and a Crest; it does not list a direct item reward.

The Howling Marshes also return in later quests. A Tear Between Worlds sends the player to a clearing there, so an apparently inaccessible northern route or crypt during an early visit should not automatically be treated as a bug.

What Is in the Howling Marshes?

Find Published detail
Logan House Brook's home is in the marshes
Death Frequently sits beneath a tree on a stump near the center
Yellow Glowglammer Gatherable documented by the community Wiki
Sugarbone and flowers Harvestables documented in the release-location guide
Crypt Appears inaccessible on the first documented visit
Northern clearing Used by later story progression

Process useful harvestables before selling when the relevant workstation adds value. Do not clear a quest ingredient from storage solely because the raw item has a sale price.

Dark Wood and Weeping Willows

The white-leaved, drooping Weeping Willow trees in the Howling Marshes drop Dark Wood and can be cut with the starting Rusty Axe. This is the quickest repeatable source because it does not require the Copper Axe needed for large fallen logs.

The official 1.1.45 patch notes increased the chance of Weeping Willows respawning to improve late-game Dark Wood access. A higher chance is not an instant reset: if the marsh is empty, continue normal progression and check again on later nights. For the second source and the 3 Dark Wood → 1 Hardwood Plank conversion, use the complete Dark Wood guide.

Howling Marshes Fish

Fish Condition Rod note
Brickle Any time in the published table Any rod
Gloy Gloy Any time in the published table Premium or Enchanted Rod

See the Fishing Guide for the complete 22-name working checklist and the current rod-source conflict.

Published Critter Examples

The current public habitat table is incomplete, but it documents these Howling Marshes examples:

Critter Published season
Firefly Summer
Mossback Spring / Summer
Murky Spring / Summer
Psyclops Spring / Summer; also reported in Moonlit Pines

Catch lists are still being expanded, so use the in-game Museum silhouettes as the final authority and see the 95-name Critter Checklist before assuming these are the only marsh spawns.

If the Quest Marker Seems Wrong

  1. Confirm the journal says to meet Ludo and Saga in the Howling Marshes, not at the Crest Garden or Broken Lamp.
  2. Check whether the objective says tomorrow; sleeping is required before the next version of the meeting objective.
  3. Enter from the Town Hall route to cross the area boundary and trigger the scene.
  4. Check the world map: the community Wiki notes that active quest locations twinkle.
  5. Finish the current local scene before following a second overlapping quest marker.
